About Storyboat 700+
The Storyboat 700+ project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, celebrated the 701st anniversary of St Peter's church. Its aim was to recognise the changing nature of Portishead and the role that St Peter's church has played in its heritage and as a central part of the growing community. St Peter's has 'held' stories of personal and communal significance in this community for centuries as the population has grown from 300 to over 25,000! The project gives both old and new residents of this hugely changing and enlarged town the chance to engage with some of these stories and recognise their own part in the continuity of Portishead’s unique community.
We will do this in four ways:
- The Storyboat700+ Flotilla - an installation of 700 paper boats hung in the nave of St Peter's – each boat decorated by a local person with their own story.
- The Storyboat700+ Oral History Heritage Project - capturing stories about the town, from local people's memories.
- The Storyboat700+ Heritage Drama Project - a series of workshops and story-telling events based around St Peter's bringing some of the local stories to life.
- The Storyboat700+ Building Work - essential repairs to the Grade 1 listed building ensuring safety and longevity to this important piece of local heritage.
