Summary
Memories of staying with a great aunt in Albert Road and the family concerns of a new housing development called Brampton Way:
Transcript
We stayed with my grandmother’s sister lived in Albert Road. I think, as a council tenant….and we stayed with her for about 6 months…and I can remember this huge apple tree in the back garden, which I think is still there…..but when we moved in, Brampton Way didn’t exist and I can remember rumblings of them building this new housing estate…and my parents saying who would want to live there, the houses are really close together….at the time, it was a sign of growth in Portishead ….these modern houses behind beautiful Victorian houses….and being shocked at how many houses there would be….Portishead felt so small then and very different .....and she (great aunt) had this thing…she only ever washed her hair in rain water and in the back of the garden she had this pump and we used to put this bucket underneath this pump with a handle and used to pump it to get all this cold water out and she would wash her hair with it!
