Peter recalls an unusual find
Transcript
The docks were very dirty docks, I remember that well industry from the docks played a big havoc. You had Albright and Wilson’s and they were dirty businesses really. They gave employment to people, which was what people wanted of course they had it’s toll on the area. I always remember lots of jellyfish but the only fish I ever saw were floating on the top unfortunately. I don’t ever remember us getting in swimming in it, put it that way. I do remember walking along what was Harbour Road. Harbour road in those days was just a dead end and I remember you used to go along part of the way and then it used to go into the dock area and just beyond that area was the Police Station basically that controlled the dock lands. Being quite a timid lad, I never went near that, but I have recently found a little brass disc, which has got a number 298 or something and that disc actually belonged to one of the policemen that actually worked there. It was his police number.
