Nigel describes the old Portishead Rectory
Summary
It had about 30 rooms very cold in winter and plumbing problems.
Transcript
There were vast roof spaces which led me to believe it was probably 15th or 16th century which it turned out to be because the timbers up there, in the roof which occasionally I poked a nose through various sort of cubby holes to have a look, looked very old indeed. I suppose it had about 30 rooms of various shapes and sizes, but it was very comfortable house, bitterly cold in winter but reasonably cool in summer. The heating was really Heath Robinson, and the boiler led the hot pipes up to the bathroom in the tower part of the house and frequently they got furred up because the water round here was terribly hard, and this furred up the pipes and we frequently had to call for Mr. Griggs the plumber to come and unseize the whole system.
